Trying to unite Ireland by "annexing" (a diplomatic option) four fellow Irish factions was one of the most satisfying TW achievements I have had, but sadly it may be a one off - it is not easy! The different factions often have quite different starts and mechanics - the standout is probably Mide. My computer is not up to WH3 but I am not looking forward to what sounds like endless sieges (with questionable autoresolve). Personally, I LOVE the absence of garrisons for unwalled cities - it adds an extra layer to the strategy, both on the offense and defense.
The recruitment system is the strong point - the design, with three types of troop quality (levies, retinue and elite) is just inspired. Heavy infantry dominates - as it should - but cavalry and missiles can give you the edge if used right.
The battles generally feel authentic - the balance of arms feels just right for the period. It is attractive to look at, well optimised and moves along at a fair pace - the campaigns can be finished in a day or two Attila is more like a week or two. ToB is a welcome relief from the rigours of Attila. Attila will probably always be the ultimate for me, but man is it a slog. It's the most fun and playable historical TW for me right now. Once you get the other Huang Shao, Gong Du and He Yi the campaign gets significantly easier though, and the fervour perk isn't that useful since the AI already gets public order cheats.ĭefinitely underrated.

He Jin came at me with a full stack of fucking heavy armored imperial guards and it wasn't even turn 10 yet, I had to fight him off with just peasants, it was only around turn 20 that all of my armies were completely replenished to full. Yes, they snowball pretty hard if Zhang Jue is allowed to expand northwards but when I was playing as Zhang Liang I was fighting for my life with 2 non-delegatable battles every turn. On turn 3 you are forced into a coalition war with nearly all of China, not just the literal empire itself. It's practically impossible for them to survive without the player playing as one of the three. The Zhang brothers are expected to fall, not just because they don't exist in the next start dates. I don't think the Mandate Of Heaven is biased towards the Yellow Turbans at all. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
